Shakespeare

Before we begin our reading of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, let’s reflect upon our prior impressions and knowledge. What do you already know (or think you know) about William Shakespeare? What are your expectations for the Macbeth play?

  1. I already have learned a lot about Shakespeare. I know that he made many famous plays. He died on his birthday at the age of 52. People came from all around to see his plays. The kind also liked his plays. This is lust some of what I know, but I think theses are all very important.

  2. I already knew that Shakespeare wrote plays and lived in England. He lived near the THAMES river, which was smelly and polluted, but he wasn't born in London, he was born in Stratford.
I think that Macbeth might hard to understand because Shakespeare wrote in the way they used to talk.

  3. I know a few things about William Shakespeare. Obviously, I know that he wrote many famous plays. He was born in Stratford, England. Also, his first years in London were named "the lost years" because no one knew when William's interest in theater began. Shakespeare had only one son named Hamnet which died at the age 11. Sadly, William Shakespeare died at the age of 52 on his 52nd birthday. Those are a few things that I know about William Shakespeare, but I still hope to learn much more! Also, I think that Shakespear's Macbeth play will be interesting but hard to comprehend in some ways.

  4. I know that Shakespeare died on his birthday at the age of 52, he had one son and wrote many famous plays that were saved in a book. Without this book we would have no record of Shakespeare or his plays. I also know that he wrote many famous plays that the queen came to see. I believe that this story will be hard to understand because of the language that they used during that time.

  6. I have learned many things about Shakespeare in the past. I know that he wrote many famous plays in the past, and one of his most famous is Romeo and Juliet. Also, I know that he had 3 children, but he lost his only son which is whyy some of his plays during that time were sad. Personaly, I have not heard of The Macbeth Play, so I am excited to read it in class.

  10. I know that Shakespear was the most famous playwriter of all time. I know that he was not born in England, but moved there eventually. I also know that he wrote over 50 plays and 2 men of his troupe gethered and compiled them in a book. I think the Macbeth play was be very difficult to understand because they were designed to be preformed, not read, but it will be a masterpiece, like all of his other works.

  11. I know that Shakespeare is one of the most famous play writers in history. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. He only had one son who tragically died at the age of 11. Shakespeare was a play writer at a difficult time in history for play writers and actors. He was loved by the Queen and then the King because of his wonderful acts. I do not know much about the book Macbeth, but I have heard it is a wonderful book. Some of Shakespeare's other famous books include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello.

  12. To begin, i know that Shakespeare wrote many plays in his lifetime, and that he was very mysterious. It is believed that no one knew when his exact date of birth or what he really looked like! All they know for certain is that he was born in England and had a boy named Hamnet who, sadly, died at age 11. Also, the King and Queen cherished him and his plays that he wrote! Finally, he died at age 52 on his "birthday". I haven't heard anything about Macbeth, but i expect it to be extraordinary, intriguing, and surprising so I stay interested! I hope to enjoy this unit!

  14. I only know a very little about William Spakespeare. Of the things i do know i know that he was born in England. When he was alive Elizabeth I was queen. Later on in his life, Shakespeare joined an acting group called Lord Chamberlain's Men. Shakespeare also had one son, Hamnette, that died at the age of eleven. Shakespeare then died at the age of 52 supposedly on his birthday. In what i know about Shakespeare i am suspecting that the Macbeth play will be very good.

  17. In FOCUS in 5th grade we did a unit on Shakespeare and read A Midsummer Night's Dream (I think I was a fairy or the donkey guy), so I know a few things about him. I know he wrote Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. He performed in the Globe Theater until a spark from a cannon set the Globe in fire. Queen Elizabeth (I think the II) liked his plays a lot. All of the actors were men, even the girl characters. Shakespeare lived in London a long time ago. He wrote everything in Old English. I tried to read one of his plays and I was way too confused to get past the first page (like when I tried to read Lord of the Rings in 3rd grade).
I haven't heard much about Macbeth, but I know it is a tragedy. Macbeth might be confusing if it's in Old English, but tragedies are supposed to be really good, like Romeo and Juliet.
That is all I can remember right now.

I always knew he wrote plays a long time ago, but I didn't know his real story. Now that we read the William Shakespeare and the Globe book, I know that he lived in England, where everyone hung out around the bridge over a river that was very unsanitary, and watched street plays. Soon Will began writing stories and plays too, and was excellent at it. So excellent that we still perform his plays today!

  26. I know so many things about William Shakespeare now after taking some notes. One of the things I can recall is that because Queen Elizabeth loved the arts she very much enjoyed his plays. He was first born in Stratford, England. Then once he started writing excellant plays, these plays were sent off to the Globe Theatre to be performed. Sadly a cannon in the audience caused the theatre to catch on fire until there was nothing left of the Globe theatre. In Shakespeare's early lifetime, he had an eleven year old son. He died at the age if 52. So far I think that the book is a little bit confusing at some parts, but I do look forward to reading further in the book. I also like how everyone gets there own part to read.

  30. Hurr, hurr, I finally figured how to do this...T-T

So Shakespeare's this guy that wrote, like, alot of plays. ;D Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet... The usual. :D I remember watching the nanny when Maxwell and Fran had be in Romeo and Juliet, since Maxwell's a broadway guy. At the end, when Fran had to kill herself, she was being a spaz and was pulled up by a rope-thingie.:D And then this other time, I was watching a show about a kid who was CEO/Earl of a famous toy company. He hired a buch of actors to act for a bunch of orphaned children, but they all died. D: So the CEO kid and his friends had to perform it themselves. Everyone kept on scaring the kids because there was this one guy in a dress. But it ended up being a hit because someone was seaweed and was sinnging the seaweed song.:D

But back to the real facts, Shakespeare wrote alot of plays and tragedies. I saw a Shakespeare comedy and it wasn't funny. I guess British people have no sense of humor back then. They couldn't be immature people like us. :D (But I'm getting off task again.) Shakespeare died on his birthday and lived in London. I guess dying at 52 is good back then. At least you won't die in your thirties, like in third world countries. :D

    Peace out yo,

  31. I have allot of prior knowledge of William Shakspeare. In the 4th grade we had learned about William, his family, surroundings, several of his plays, slang created by him used in his plays, styles and fashions of his era, archetchture, and all about the decades he lived through.

Willianm shakespeare was born april 23 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He attended several schools and got an impressing education. He got married to a woman named Anne Hatheway ay the age of 18. They soon had thier first baby girl. Later, he and Anne had twins ( a boy and a girl), but unfortunately, His only son Hamnet died at the age off 11.

Later in his life, William got involded with a acting company known as 'Lord Chamberlains Men', wich soon became the best company in England! He and the men in his group then created a playhouse called The Globe theater. Many of his most famous plays were preformed here. (some Shakespears most remembered plays were: A Midsummer Nights Dream, Romeo & Juilet, Macbeth, and Hamlet) Shakespear used mad several hundreds of new words and slang in writting the scripts of his plays , some of which we still use today. He is the most recognizable play writter in the world and many still even qoute metaphors of his plays.

With my experience with Shakespears attitude and writting techniques, there is a guarentee that the play Macbeth will be suspenseful, bloody, dramatic, but with the smallest ounce of dark hidden humor.

He died in 1616 and died wealthy, forever embedded in severals thoughts, and has been missed.

    I LOVVVE WILLIAM SHAKESPEAR <3 :),

Now that you are mid-way through the Macbeth play, you should have a sense of character traits, perhaps character flaws, that affect main characters in the play. What words would you use to characterize Macbeth? Lady Macbeth? Explain your choices.

  47. I think that Macbeth is Going to die because he does not have enough mental stength.

  48. I would characterize Macbeth as a weak, but powerful tyrant. I say this because a agree with Lady Macbeth on that. But I characterize her as a cruel, spiteful, controlling manipulator. I say this because she is pushing Macbeth to do more and more bad things.

  49. I think that Macbeth is a paranoid, violent, motionally disturbed, ambitious, egotistical, obsessive, and slightly insane character.

Explaination: Macbeth was easily manipulated by Lady Macbeth to kill the king, i think that Macbeth is also thoughtfull becasue he relized what he did was the wrong the to do. He even wanted to say a prayer after he commited the murder

She is a woman who will do anything to become th queen, and controlls her husband to kill the king. She is not afraid of anything. She even compares herself to the devil.
    Macbeth-Crazy, Scared, Dilagant
Why? Well once he kills the king he cannot bring himself to finish the prayer, and does not thik himself worthy. He also becomes crazy after Banquo's death seeing ghosts and things like thst, not knowing it to be reality or a dream.

  59. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth craves power because three whiches told him his prophecy. They said that he would become the Thane of Glamis and then the King. Macbeth gets overtaken by what the whiches said and plans to kill the current King. This makes Macbeth weak, guilty, and afraid. Lady Macbeth pushed Macbeth to kill the king and it seemed that she wanted the King to be killed more than Macbeth. Lady Macbeth would be considered mean, determined, strong, fearless, and controlling.

Lady Macbeth is the dominant female, like Rochelle form Everybody Hates Chris. :D She's mean, tough, and scary when she needs tyo, but Rochelle is ACTUALLY nice to her kids especially Drew, but not Chris, because eveyone hates him. She kinda reminds me of my mom, because she's scary when she needs to, too. Lady Macbeth sounds like a nutjob sometimes and scares the kids~ :D Macbeth reminds me of Killmoose(Kilmoo, Killmoose? IDK. He had alot of greif when he killed Greed, but he sucked it up like big midget he is! ;D Lady Macbeth is very independent and Macbeth depnds on her like in that song when they say, "She gives me money, when I'm in need~" They remind me of my mom and dad, because my dad's afraid of my mom. :D (She's really scaryyyy... if this isnt good enough then im going to write a little more...

Macbeth: He started as a valiant hero, but as more and more people added to his ego he became a murderous villian. He started to change his state-of-mind when he was told by the three witches told him that he would become thane of Caudor then king. Then he starts to go "crazy in the head" ,if you know what I mean, when he sees the floating dagger in the air. then later he gets people to murder banquo and then hes sees his ghost sitting in a chair at a dinner party and you know hes crazy then.

Lady Macbeth: This girl is very queer and demented. She starts in the book when she comes into the scene after Macbeth tells her about what the witches said. she later says that she wishes that she was a man which is reaaaally freaky and i dont think that is very normal... in any case... ya so thats it

  78. I think that William Shakespeare is a very boring but a very artistic play maker. His plays are almost like artwork they speak to you in a very quiet voice. All I know is that there is not much known information about him.I expect that the Macbeth play will be very boring but it will teach me a very valuable and important lesson.

  79. I know that William Shakespeare is one of the most famous play writes in history. Although little is known about him, his work is well known around the world. He is best known for his plays Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo & Juliet

I read a lot of Shakespere in FOCUS in 5th grade. My favorite was either Romeo and Juilet or Hamlet. Although he is very famous in the reading and writing world, there is very little known about him. I think Macbeth will be good and intense, like most of Shakespere's writings are. I think it will have a fighting twist to it. I know what it is about because i read a shorter version in 5th grade. I think it will be intertaining.

  82. While learning about shakespeare, I learned that there is a mystery if Shakespeare was really the writer or if he was only a fraud. Also i learned that shakespeare liked to write about tragic events, but also about commedy. Posted by Sabrina

  84. Shakespear was born and died on the same day, April 23, only differnt years. He wrote famous plays that have lived on hundreds of years because of their "forever" design/layout. Macbeth, I suppose is about the murder, that led to many more, for revenge. I don't know though, but I'll find out soon enough!

  85. I really enjoyed the shakespear playshop. I learned alot of new things about him, and his plays! The part I enjoyed the most was acting out the plays. I also liked how all the plays we acted ou fit togther. Something new I learned about shakespear was that the more money you payed, the better seats you gotfor the show. I really liked the playshop!
